Its been a while, I might start doing smaller more frequent blogs, or that statement might be a lie and these things will just continue to come out twice a year, the same frequency that the squeaking tiger chimp of Borneo lays its egg sack chrysalis. LOVEBIRDS Steven and Kathryn share a well-organised home in bustling Las Vegas.

They have a neat, if compact kitchen, a furnished living area, and a bedroom complete with double bed, wardrobe and bookshelf featuring a wide selection including a Frank Sinatra biography and Spanish phrase book.

And they make their money in some of the biggest casinos in the world.

But their life is far from the ordinary.

Because, along with hundreds of others, the couple are part of a secret community living in the dark and dirty underground flood tunnels below the famous strip.

Rather than working in the bars or kitchens they "credit hustle", prowling the casinos searching the fruit machines for money or credits left by drunken gamblers.

Despite the risks from disease, highly venomous spiders and flooding washing them away, many of the tunnel people have put together elaborate camps with furniture, ornaments and shelves filled with belongings.

Steven and girlfriend Kathryn's base - under Caesar's Palace casino - is one of the most elaborate. They even have a kettle and a makeshift shower fabricated out of an office drinking water dispenser.

But their bed and many of their belongings are on crates to keep them off the damp floor.

Despite it being hot and dry outside, their tunnel is wet from water being sent down from nearby construction work.

As he gives a guided tour of home, Steven Dommermuth explains: "We use our imagination a lot.

"Our bed came from a skip outside an apartment complex. It's mainly stuff people dump that we pick up. One man's junk is another man's gold.

"We get the stuff late at night so people don't see us because it's kind of embarrassing."

He later gives directions to the tunnels' own art gallery, a collection of graffiti by local artists and some by the underground residents.

Steven moved into the tunnels two years ago after he lost his hotel front-desk job due to a heroin problem he claims he kicked in January.

He now works the same hotels credit-hustling, and his life retains other similarities with the one he left behind.

He says: "We work our way down the strip. The most I've ever found is 997 dollars on one machine. I've found about $500 a few times. But normally $20 or so is enough to call it a night.

"We buy food and supplies like shampoo and soap. Last night I went and watched the new Quentin Tarantino movie Inglourious Basterds up at the Palms Hotel."

From the annals of good ideas gone horribly, horribly, wrong, comes this seriously misguided attempt at a domestic violence awareness campaign. As hatched by a Danish advocacy group, the “Hit The Bitch” website allows you (or someone like you), in the guise a meaty male hand, to beat the crap out of a woman. And, for the sake of convenience, to simulate the beating, you can use either your mouse or your webcam. Here’s what Gwen Sharp at Sociological Images has to say about it:
The woman gets increasingly bruised and bloodied as you hit her. I forced myself to try the site and hit her twice, and it was honestly sickening to watch her head jerk backward or to the side and hear the sound of the slap and her reacting. At the top, a counter keeps track; you start out as 100% Pussy, 0% Gangsta, but your Gangsta rating goes up every time you hit her (below).

Apparently, though, when you get up to where you’d be at 100% Gangsta, it instead says 100% Idiot, as though this is a real put-down that is going to make you think really seriously about domestic violence. I am trying to think of any context that would make this seem like a good idea, or an effective way to combat domestic violence. I mean, ok, yeah, I guess people might be made more aware of it after hearing about or playing the game, but is it likely to have any positive effect?

It seems more likely that people who don’t already take domestic violence seriously would either be uncomfortable, leave the site, and never think about it again, or find it funny to play for a few minutes just to see what would happen…and somehow encouraging people to slap around an image of a woman for fun seems like a really weird way to get people to think more seriously about domestic violence.

SAO PAULO — A Brazilian university has expelled a woman who was heckled by hundreds of fellow students for wearing a short, pink dress to class – publicly accusing her Sunday of immorality.

The private Bandeirante University in Sao Bernardo do Campo, outside Sao Paulo, said 20-year-old Geisy Arruda disrespected “ethical principles, academic dignity and morality.”

Bandeirante University published newspaper advertisements Sunday accusing Arruda of attending class with “inadequate clothing” and having a provocative attitude that was “incompatible with the university environment.”

In the ad, titled “Educational Responsibility,” the college said it had warned Arruda to change her behavior and decided to expel her after talking to students, staff and Arruda herself. It accused her of posing for pictures and provoking other students.

The university said it was also temporarily suspending some of the students who were seen heckling Arruda in a video of the incident that made the rounds on Youtube. It did not say how many were being suspended or how long they would be kept from attending classes.

There is something about Gaddafi that makes him my favorite eccentric statesman, perhaps its the fact that you can spell his name 37 different ways...

The greatest attraction in Atlantic City was the Steel Pier, which featured a host of extraordinary side shows, and where stars of stage and screen regularly performed at the Marine Ballroom. But the most popular, and the most indelibly remembered, act on the Steel Pier was the Diving Horse. For children especially, the diving horses were for decades a mesmerizing and never-to-be-forgotten experience.
‘The riders (all women) would suffer one or two broken bones a year. Most of the injuries came from getting out of the pool of paddling hooves. They made it look easy, but it wasn’t. Years ago a rider by the name of Sonora Carver (in the late 1920’s) went blind from a bad impact with the water. The jump was sixty feet at that time, but was then lowered to forty.

‘Another horse, I think his name was Patches, drew quite an audience. After making so many jumps he no longer waited for his rider. He would charge up the ramp to the tower and take a running jump off the diving board, leaving the rider behind. A couple of the girls tried to leap on him as he flew by, only to be left sailing through the air mount-less. One day, he got up so much speed he almost overshot the pool. Needless to say, they retired him. One year they even had a high diving mule.’

The Diving Horses ceased in 1978, when the Steel Pier was bought by Resorts International, and was shut down. Thankfully, the last two diving horses were saved by an animal protection society.

For some reason the last post I did was deleted for no reason which along with turning me into a seething cauldron of white hot rage also put me off doing more. Joe Coleman is nuts: his first drawings as a child were of bleeding saints, death by fire, and stabbing. In first grade, Coleman was placed in a class for emotionally disturbed, disabled, and retarded children. At age 10 he received an art award for a drawing of garbage. At age 12, he set a fire in his elementary school yard and "confessed" to committing several murders to a priest.

As well as being a visual artist he liked performance art and pranks, watch this video below that gives a fairly good idea of where he was at.

Death were a punk band that used to play R and B until they saw Alice Cooper in 1973. They were never signed due to them refusing to change their name. Their album is finally getting released 30 years later, they are like Bad Brains crossed with MC5. Have a listen, they are amazing.

In 1928 Harry Woodhousen built the first Macys Day Parade balloon which took more than 75 people to control it, being especially difficult keeping it from underneath New Yorks Rail bridges. At the end of the parade it was too hard to disassemble so it was left to fly away, but a reward for given for its capture. Kids lined the streets with bb guns to try and bring it down but it was found safe and sound over 150 miles away a few days after.

Every city has its own gang history, part of Chicago's are Gang cards, most prominent in the 70's and early 80's, back in the day when a gang was more of a neighborhood crew then what it is today. Fists, bats, and bottles days, before guns became the norm in the gang. Most of the gangs were just about the neighborhood and hanging out together. Stock art from the printer as well as some hand drawn illustrations were the back bone of many of the cards. Some cards are pretty humorous, with some off the wall illustrations, logos, sayings, and rhymes. They don't make them like they used to...

Streetwise was a documentary from 1984 that followed around street kids from Seattle's downtown area. Most of these kids were very young and in situations that were very adult and harrowing, some of them later on in life were killed by a local serial killer. If ever you think you have it rough just watch this. The first part is below.

The Pirate Parrot has been the mascot for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team since 1979, which by sheer coincidence happens to be when cocaine use was reaching its peak both in the USA and in major league baseball.
In 1985, several players for the Pirates became implicated in a drug scandal that led to the Pittsburgh Drug Trials. Big names like Keith Hernandez, Lonnie Smith and Tim Raines testified before a grand jury about how rampant coke use had become among players (Hernandez guesstimated that 40% of major league players were on cocaine). Tim Raines testified that he kept a vial of coke in his uniform pocket, making sure to only slide headfirst so he wouldn't break it.

Where did they get all that blow? From a dude in a big, fluffy parrot costume. Kevin Koch, who portrayed the Parrot when the shit went down, admitted to both using cocaine and to relaying the drugs to the team. Koch is rumored to have stashed the cocaine in his oversized beak during the games which makes me wonder if a strong sneeze would have sent a cloud of the stuff into the crowd.
Koch escaped prosecution by cooperating with the FBI, agreeing to wear a wire which we're assuming he also hid in his beak. And thus the Pirate Parrot, presumably in full parrot costume, got the goods on his drug supplier, who we like to imagine looked and talked exactly like Tony Montana from Scarface.

Koch was stripped of his feathers and was no longer allowed to act as the Pirates' mascot. Im guessing he wasn't going to put that job on his resume anyway.

Ladytron are playing at Parklife. Im sure that most of the trash attending wont like them and Im not sure how they will translate live but they are really good and have plenty of good remixes. This track is great.

George Carlin died earlier this year like a lot of old people but he was better than most. I agree with most his stand up but his views on words and language are spot on, its all about intent. Watch, laugh and learn.

Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko is a mixed martial arts fighter from Russia that is the only person in the world that is unbeaten. He actually does have one loss but that was from a cut that was caused by an illegal blow so its not really recognized. Fedor competes as a heavyweight even though he is only 6 foot. His workouts consist of hitting tires with hammers and wrestling in sweatsuits in abandoned baltic warehouses in minus temperatures. He is known to hunt bears with just a knife and a pitchfork. There is a softer side to Fedor, he is always respectful of his opponents and nearly always smiling (below).

He also has a love for drawing and dishes out these great little characters.

Russian President Putin took a day off parliament to see him fight and Jean Claude Van Damme follows him around almost obsessively. Fedor has always been criticized by American mixed martial artists for not being the real deal so they organized him to fight one of their own, a clearly much bigger opponent on their soil, to humble him with a post cold war American bullyramming.

The trap was set. Lets watch what happened.

The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox in my opinion was the last great indie hip hop record. Produced by El-P it had like a crunchy synth based future ghetto tech vibe, was very melodic and in some ways quite ambient. They only did one album but it is a masterpiece. Here are two tracks.

The fight was a rematch and the poor bastard Ali's standing over was Sonny Liston. Their first fight had ended mysteriously when Liston refused to come out of his corner. In the months leading up to the rematch, they had a difficult time securing a venue, partially due to rumors of mob involvement, which is how they ended up in Maine. Making things all the more shady, nobody saw the punch that knocked Liston out. While the resulting photograph makes Ali look like he's celebrating in triumph, many witnesses, journalists and those who were ringside claim Ali was actually yelling at Liston to get up, presumably so he could at least wait for a more plausible punch before taking a dive.
In the seedy world of professional boxing, Liston was perhaps the dirtiest and most mysterious guy in the ring. No one knew, including Liston, when or where he was born. Liston had done time and apparently had underworld connections, including having his contract owned by notorious and prominent Mafiosos.
Because of that, there were rumors that Liston bet against himself because he owed money to the mob and really didn't feel like getting fitted with a pair of cliche cement shoes.
To make things worse, apparently Liston had another group to fear: the Black Muslims who supported Ali. The word, coming straight from one of Liston's trainers, is that Liston was so petrified of being murdered by the group that he decided it just wasn't worth it to mix it up with Ali. So taking the dive may have killed two birds with one stone.
Or not, since Liston died a mysterious death (the cops declared it a heroin overdose, but he barely had any in his system), causing some to speculate he was murdered. Man, if you can't trust Mob bosses and violent extremists, who can you trust?

Im pretty sure Dov Charney could be the Real Iron Man, the similarities are staggering. For those who don’t know, Dov Charney is the super rich, incredibly eccentric founder and CEO of American Apparel. (Granted, he designs clothing instead of missiles, but Marvel was most likely acutely aware of the fact that a comic about a witty, playboy polo-shirt-salesmen just wouldn’t sell.) When you ignore the difference between Stark’s weapons and Charney’s clothing, you’ll see just how staggering the similarities are. Both men are fast-paced entrepreneurs who built their empires from scratch and are notorious for their suave business savvy. Further, while Tony Stark took heat and received praise for refusing to sell weapons to terrorists, Charney received a similarly mixed reaction when he decided to pay his workers fair wages and by refusing to outsource. Two men, two successful businesses despite nontraditional practices, two facial-hair-champions.

Also, the womanizing. Iron Man comics are loaded with evidence of Stark’s shameless, near-constant boning of any woman who crosses his path, and Charney has had five sexual harassment lawsuits launched against him and once masturbated in front of an interviewer for Jane Magazine. These days its very hard to get away with anything.On November 24, 1971, a man boarded a plane in Portland under the mundane fake name of Dan Cooper. He was dressed in heavy clothing and sunglasses and had a bomb in his suitcase. This was in an innocent time before anyone realized passengers should be checked for that sort of thing, so security was based on the honor system.

Mr. Cooper sat down and handed a note to a stewardess telling her the plane was being hijacked and that he had a bomb (hijackers weren't nearly as rude back then). He demanded $200,000 and four parachutes upon arrival in Seattle.
This is the point in most hijackings where the plane lands and a police sniper shoots the hijacker in the head. Cooper, however, had a plan.
Once on the ground Cooper let all the passengers off (keeping three crew members on board to fly the plane) and in exchange, he got his cash and parachutes. He ordered the pilot to take off once more, while the FBI could only stand on the tarmac below and shake their fists up at the sky.

Cooper and the crew flew to Reno, Nevada, where he forced them to fly the plane low and slow, which are parachutin' conditions. Cooper lowered the rear stairs, jumped out, and was never seen again. All he left behind were two of the parachutes and his tie.
When the police couldn't find the body or the parachutes they started hauling in everyone and their hijacker-looking friends. The list of suspects was at one point around 1,000 people. The first suspect they dragged in was a Portland man named D.B. Cooper who was quickly cleared as a suspect. The real hijacker was never found.

In the 90's Michael Tunn used to host the irreplaceable Afternoon show. The same Michael Tunn who was busted for public exposure at The Hampshire Hotel and the same Michael Tunn who repeatedly used to play this clip on his 3:30 time slot on the ABC. Mike Patton was the front man for Faith No More during the 90's. He replaced Chuck Moseley who was kicked out after passing out and vomiting at a major press conference. Chuck could not actually sing but did look good in a fluro mu mu seen below..Some interesting FNM facts: Courtney Love sang for them for a short while and the fish dying in the end of the Real Thing video actually belonged to Bjork.

The Boards of Canada are very mysterious. They say they are best friends but they actually are brothers. There music is littered with riddles, backwards speech, mathematic equations and well as sounds at frequencies we just can't plain hear. They live on an island off Scotland, rarely give interviews and have only performed live twice. I have never really liked the fascination that Americans seem to have with humiliation.
They seem to like tearing people down as much as they like propping them up.
Comedy Central has what they call roasts where a celebrity is insulted and humiliated in front of a television audience. Comedians take turns in dishing out the insults on each other and then take a seat and sit quietly as they too get picked on.
Jamie Foxx decided to break the rules of the roast and not play along. Know that he actually destroyed this guys career.
